LBNL is working with two other national labs (PNNL and ORNL) on a DOE sponsored project to deliver a Transactional Network that uses agents to conduct energy, operational, and financial transactions between building based equipment and the electric power grid. The goal is to demonstrate an open source, open architecture platform that enables a variety of specific site/equipment applications to be coordinated in a cost effective, scalable way. This ubiquitous, interoperable approach to information exchange and data transport is expected to reduce to cost of entry for existing and new service providers. Initial tests of the interactive control based network has demonstrated improved operations in roof top heating, ventilation, and cooling systems. Work in progress is extending the agent based communication concept to lighting and commercial refrigeration systems.
